My design techniques and philosopy

My design philosophy is to keep it simple and elegant, avoid design clichés, and focus on the content, not web-design gimmicks. Nobody wants to wait for a big animation to load so that eventually they get the chance to click "enter site", and I don't think visitors are impressed by stock photos of models in business dress shaking hands ouside shiny office blocks. Instead, I can base the look of the site around the visual identity of your business, organisation or project. If such a visual identity does not already exist, I can help you create one which is orginal and aesthetically pleasing.

In technical terms, I favour light-weight CSS-based design with full design/content separation. In plain English, that means it's very quick and easy to change the look of the whole site at a later date. It's a much better way of designing than the "tables-based" methods which preceded it.

Another issue is "web standards". Busy design studios may not have the time or inclination to ensure sites meet the technical standards considered desirable these days, especially if they're using software packages which are more concerned with fast productivity than standards compliance. I work to the specifications developed by the Word Wide Web Consortium (also known as W3C, the overseers of the development of the internet) and I run every page through the W3C's online code checker.

There are three current web-development languages: HTML4, XHTML1.0 and XHTML 1.1. There are different reasons to use these each one of these, and I can work in all of them, giving you the best results to suit your requirements.
